About WaterFilterMatch
What We Do
WaterFilterMatch.com is an independent resource that helps you find the right water filter for your specific water quality. We combine EPA water quality data with verified NSF certification records to match contaminants in your water to filters that are actually certified to remove them.
We are not a review blog. We don't do subjective “best of” lists. Our tools use structured data - NSF certifications, EPA maximum contaminant levels, and real replacement filter costs - to give you actionable, verifiable recommendations.
Our Data
- 42 water filters with verified specs, NSF certifications, pricing, and replacement filter costs across pitchers, under-sink, faucet, RO, whole-house, and UV systems.
- 32 contaminants with EPA maximum contaminant levels, health effects, and which filtration technologies remove them.
- 100 US water systems covering 90+ million Americans across 3,038 ZIP codes, with detected contaminant levels from EPA and EWG data.
Editorial Standards
Water filtration is health-adjacent. We take that seriously:
- Every filter recommendation is tied to a verifiable NSF certification - not marketing claims.
- We distinguish between “NSF certified” and “tested to NSF standards” - these are not the same thing.
- We make no health outcome claims. We report what the EPA says and what NSF certifications verify.
- Products without NSF certification (like Berkey) are included with clear disclosure but excluded from our contaminant matching tool.
- Prices are never hardcoded in content - they come from our data layer with a “last checked” date.
How We Make Money
WaterFilterMatch.com earns affiliate commissions when you purchase a product through our links. This includes Amazon Associates and brand-direct affiliate programs.
Affiliate commissions do not influence our recommendations. Our tools recommend filters based on NSF certifications and contaminant match - not commission rates. A filter with a 15% commission and no NSF certification will never outrank a filter with a 3% commission and verified NSF 53 certification.
Data Sources
- EPA - National Primary Drinking Water Regulations, PFAS Final Rule (2024), SDWIS database, Lead and Copper Rule
- NSF International - Certified product database, standards 42, 53, 58, 401, P473, P231, 55, 44
- EWG - Tap Water Database (contaminant levels by water system)
- WQA / IAPMO - Additional certification bodies for product verification
- Manufacturer spec sheets - Official product pages and published performance data sheets
